Mom Monday- One Year!
Today was Evie's one year old doctors appointment.
Even though she HATED the shots, she actually did wonderfully. She calmed down quickly and when they drew blood, she didn't make a sound. She was a trooper! Though funny aside- she pulled off her bandaid and got blood on her checkout sheet- I was mortified, but the checkout lady said she'd had much worse. ;)
The doctor was really impressed. Evie was very happy and was measuring great. She is 18% in weight, 40% in height, and ~50% in head circumference. I will say, both my babies are petite, but very healthy.
She is talking more each day. The doctor was particularly pleased that she knew so many words. My personal favorite is when she says thank you- it comes out tank you- so cute! I have to say, I credit her vocabulary to two things: 1) my house is never quiet, someone is always talking and we don't talk down to anyone, the same words I use with Mark, I use with the girls and 2) Kindermusik: I could go on and on about how great Kindermusik is, but in the interest of time, I'll say that Evie picked up at least two words from Kindermusik. All in all the doctor made me one proud mommy!
Now to be fair, it wasn't all perfect. She is still a little picky about some of her foods, but the doctor told us we had a normal child and not to worry, just keep exposing her to the items that she isn't eating. But I think we are turning a corner with Evie's "pickiness" she's eating a little broccoli now and tomato based sauces. So hello more yummy veggies! Of course she'll always eat her staple veggies- carrots, sweet potatoes, and butternut squash- and the girl hasn't met a fruit she doesn't like.
All in all a good day for little Evie!

Mom Monday- Evie's First Birthday Celebration
This weekend we celebrated my baby's first birthday. All my family and some friends came down to the house to enjoy some barbecue and baby time.
First the birthday girl had to get up from her nap. She rolled out of bed to find a party going on, I think she was happy.
She loved hanging out with her family.
We had some yummy food.
Including a flower cupcakes and "healthier" cake made by mommy.
She seems to like the chocolate, even if it has wholewheat flower and unprocessed sugar. ;)
Evie is very loved, she got so many wonderful gifts and almost got lost in some.
Mommy and Daddy got her a wagon and kitchen set. She loves wagon rides, which will be good this summer as both girls will be helping me with the garden. Both girls love that kitchen sings.
She played hard...
But before you know it, needed a pacy and nap.
A great day to celebrate with so many wonderful people!

Happy Birthday, Evie!!
Today my little baby is officially one year old!
Time has flown by, and I can't believe how much Evie has grown.
She is walking and talking, loves going to her music classes, smiles all the time, laughs when tickled, loves a good book, giggles when I make farm animal noises, and is still an avid breast feeder. All in all the best baby!
So Happy Birthday to my angel, I'm so looking forward to what the future holds!

Ta-Da Tuesday!
My girls are growing up more and more each day, learning so much, so quickly. They are so proud of their accomplishments, I thought I might share them with you.
My oldest, Elizabeth, is old enough to have "homework" at Kindermusik. This week we made a boat together. She was so proud of it.
Together we decorated it and put her name on the side. Lately, she's been loving learning more about letters and numbers. We count everything we see, including cows off the road. She's even learning to write! I can't believe how big she is getting.
Her sister is no different.
Evie is saying more words each day. Last week she added, "doggie" and there isn't a day that she doesn't say mom-mom or da-da.
She also started walking on her own last week!

Before you know it she be running. How quickly they grow!

Mom Monday- Finding a Gem
Sometimes being a mom is frustrating, particularly being a mom with a camera and an obsession to get some good candid shots.
Like when you dress your girls up and they refuse to smile for a picture...
Or when after "flirting" with everyone at Starbucks they throw themselves down when you pull out your camera...
But every once in awhile, you catch a gem.
The two of them playing together.
The first time one they learn to roll a toy.
The moment you realize they inherited your curls.
Smiling, happy, and clean...
or just being silly!

9 Months!!
I'm moving my thoughtful thursday post this week to friday, because today Evie is 9 months old!!
I can't believe how fast she is growing...the time goes so quickly.
She is so strong, she is already pulling up. Wow!
I personally cannot resist kissing her chubby cheeks every time I see her. Adorable!!
Crawling is right around the corner and the cat is already on the run.
She loves her baby food, and we haven't found anything she doesn't like yet. Right now she is eating butternut squash, summer squash, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, peaches, apples, bananas, chicken, and beef.
She's very much a mommy's girl, and I doubt she will wean anytime soon, which is fine with me. Of course some things are more interesting than nursing...
A sweetheart almost all the time, though she does have her moments, Evie has a loving disposition and is fiercly loyal.
You couldn't ask for a more wonderful baby! Love you, Evie!

On the Road to Granola Town- Teething Biscuits
Evie has been teething since she turned six months old. So you can imagine how much she gnaws on everything!
Finally I decided that I needed to help her out, so I went looking for teething biscuit recipes.
Lots of them have whole eggs or lots of sugar in the recipe...which for an older baby (over a year) is fine, but not for my little one (just turned 8 months).
But after lots of searching I found a recipe here. I liked it for several reasons:
1) Simple and not a lot of fuss.
2) No egg whites- she's not old enough for egg whites yet.
3) No granulated sugar- instead an all natural sugar that actually has nutrients in it!
(That is if you use REAL maple syrup. Don't buy the other stuff, it's just corn syrup with maple flavoring. So just sugar and no nutrients...)
4)It used applesauce rather than bananas.
Bananas tend to constipate children, and Evie isn't a big fan. Plus we make our own applesauce, so easy on us.
After finding the recipe, I decided it was time to try.
First I got all my ingredients together.
Then just mix it up.
Roll it out and cut into circles.
Poke holes in the center and widen with your finger. If you want a wide hole for your baby, make it really wide. The dough will shrink up when baking. Evie is still little, so I left them small. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 300 degrees until brown.
Let them dry out on your counter over night. That way they are nice and tough. Yes, tough! These are to gnaw on, so you want them to be like a bone or rock.
Store and enjoy whenever baby wants or up to two weeks.
Oh, and after your baby has slobbered awhile on these, it will get a little messy...but as my mom told me, a messy baby is a happy baby!

Eight Months!
Little Miss Evie turned eight months old on Tuesday.
I know every parent says this, but it's so hard to believe!
She is such a cute, happy baby.
All smiles except when she is fighting sleep.
She loves her baby food and recently started with puffs for a finger food and homemade teething biscuits, which mommies are worth the time!!
However, she is very much a mommy's girl. Even though she can drink from a sippy cup, she prefers her breast milk straight from the tap.
In fact, she makes the cutest little piggy noises when she nurses. (sorry Evie, you'll just have to forgive me for that one)
She is starting to talk! Yes, she says mom-mom for me and da-da for Mark. She also makes a mmm noise when she wants milk. Earlier today she has started to say bye-bye when people wave at her, so cute.
Her most recent trick is waving bye! My little smartie!!
She is also ready to crawl. Yes, she can get on all fours and rock. So crawling is right around the corner. She loves playing with her sister, and smiles the biggest when she is around.
All in all such a sweet baby! I just wish it went a little slower.
